FAQ

How does Healthy Heart Meals differ from the Zone or Atkins?

We focus on healthy, portion controlled meals and avoid the gimmicks of "low carb" diets. Our meals are low in saturated fat and low in sodium and we use healthy carbohydrates such as whole grain, multi grain and whole wheat in addition to fruits and vegetables. We believe in a healthy, balanced approach to eating.

Why are you about half the price of other meal services?

By using state of the art packaging technology, we are able to send 3 days of days of fresh meals at once and save in both delivery and production costs which we pass on to our customers.

Does everyone eat the same food?

No. For each delivery of 2 to 3 days there are 9 choices for breakfast, 9 choices for lunch and 9 choices for dinner. For those programs that include snacks there are 9 snack options per delivery as well. Some people choose different meals for each day while other people have favourite meals they order more than once. Our menu works on a 6 week cycle so there is lots of variety.

What if I don't like certain foods?

Not only do you have 9 choices per meal but you can also "mix 'n' match" your meals. All our meals are interchangeable because they are all portion controlled.

Does it matter when I eat my daily meals?

Breakfast is important to kick start your metabolism for the day and it's best to avoid eating just before bed. Other than that, eat when your body tells you to eat,. If you prefer to eat smaller portions more frequently then feel free to split your meal in two.

How long will my Healthy Heart Meals remain fresh?

Your Healthy Heart Meals are freshly prepared and then packaged using special technology (atmospheric replacement system) which keeps your meals fresh for an extended period of time. Although your meals will stay fresh for over 5 days we suggest that you eat all of your meals before your next delivery. Many of your meals can be frozen if you need to keep them for an extended period of time.

What if I'm travelling?

You can Start and Stop the program as often as you like. All you have to do is call us or go online and Book Off directly.

How much weight will I lose?

Most people will lose about 1 - 2 pounds a week. Weight loss and weight gain is a matter of caloric intake vs. caloric usage (unless you have a medical issue). If you take in more calories than you use, you will gain weight. If you take in fewer calories than you use, you will lose weight. Exercise is a great way to increase your caloric usage.

I ordered the 1150 calorie plan and my doctor advised me that I need 1500 calories per day. What should I do?

A glass of low-fat milk is always an excellent choice. Other healthy choices may include the following: (numbers are approximate, see label when purchasing)

70 - 100 calories: 1 serving of fresh fruit
40 - 60 calories: 1 cup air popped popcorn
100 - 200 calories: 1 cup yogurt
100 - 150 calories: 1 half cup frozen yogurt
80 - 120 calories: 1 medium baked or boiled potato
40 - 100 calories: 1 cup green vegetable
55 - 90 calories: 1 slice whole grain bread
90 - 110 calories: 1 cup low fat milk

What's the best plan for me?

It depends on your caloric needs. Our 1150 calorie plan provides 3 nutritious meals and still gives you the flexibility to add your own snack(s) if necessary. If you're more active, one of our higher calorie plans may be a better choice. Check our calorie calculator for a general guideline but we always suggest that you consult your physician to help you determine what is best for you.

If I lose weight on Healthy Heart Meals, will I keep it off?

The honest fact remains -- if you eat or drink more calories than you use, you'll gain weight. At Healthy Heart Meals we focus on providing portion controlled nutritious meals. Studies show that individuals who focus on portion control as opposed to "fad" diets have the best long term success. By using our service you (and your body!) naturally learn the appropriate amount of food to eat -- which will help you whether dining out or preparing your meals at home.

I don't want to lose weight - can I still be on Healthy Heart Meals?

Yes. It's a great way to ensure healthy eating. However, if you ingest fewer calories than you expend (work, exercise, etc.), then you will lose weight. We offer higher calorie plans for those who want to maintain their weight but achieve a healthier lifestyle.
